Cochem Castle
Cochem, Germany.
Cochem Castle, also known as Reichsburg Cochem, is built on a hill overlooking the Moselle Valley in the city of Cohem. This was approximately built on the 1000 and rebuild later in 1875.
I had the opportunity to visit this beautiful gothic castle in winter. It is a gothic fortress located in top of a high above the city, making its position and its wide walls were meant for protection against invaders.
It has a beautiful view to the city and the river, made mainly from wood and stone, is possible to see the main rooms, such as the Renaissance dining room, with a beautiful fireplace, molded ceilings, Knight’s halls and armors and the courtyard from which you can see the bell tower and the called witch’s tower which has a mosaic representing Saint Christopher, patron of the castle and protector of dangers.
Other details are the carved wooden ornaments scattered throughout the room stand out. Also, we can see a lot of hunting trophies, unique furniture pieces and a very deep well in the courtyard.
I hope you liked it as much as I did, and if you have the opportunity, don't miss out on visiting it.
Thanks for reading and until the next blog.
