Apple Piazza Liberty - Foster & Partners

During 2019 I had the opportunity to visit the city of Milan and didn’t hesitate to visit this great project designed by Foster + Partners. One of its most relevant and notorious aspects of the project is the spectacular water fountain contained within a glass cube, which is the atrium of the stepped plaza. It is a reinterpretation of the typical fountain in a traditional Italian square.
Its materiality is one of the most important aspects to highlight. We can observe the contrast between the light element of glass and the heavy element such as stone and adding water as a fundamental and connecting part of the project. Its facade, in addition to being translucent by glass, has a curtain of water in the form of rain.
The public square is the entrance preamble to the store, allowing the daily enjoyment of people and the realization of different events. This project is characterized by being an intelligent design that combines minimalism and elegance that represents the Apple brand and the reinterpretation of local elements of the city.
The amphitheater descends below street level meeting the water curtain and access to the building. The store is located below the amphitheater and upon entering we can see a peculiar cantilevered stainless-steel staircase, and where when we walk through it we find ourselves inside the fountain.

Durante el 2019 tuve la oportunidad de visitar la ciudad de Milán, y no dudé en visitar este gran proyecto diseñado por Foster + Partners. Uno de sus aspectos más relevantes y notorios del proyecto es la espectacular fuente de agua contenida dentro de un cubo de vidrio, la cual es el atrio de la plaza escalonada. Es una reinterpretación de la típica fuente en una plaza tradicional italiana.
Su materialidad es uno de los aspectos más importantes a resaltar. Podemos observar el contraste entre el elemento ligero del vidrio y el elemento pesado como la piedra, y agregando el agua como parte fundamental y de unión en el proyecto. Su fachada además de ser traslucida por el vidrio tiene una cortina de agua en forma de lluvia.
La plaza pública es el preámbulo de entrada a la tienda, permitiendo el disfrute diario de las personas y la realización de diferentes eventos. Este proyecto se caracteriza por ser un diseño inteligente que combina el minimalismo y la elegancia que representa la marca Apple y la reinterpretación de elementos locales de la ciudad.
El anfiteatro escalonado desciende por debajo del nivel de la calle encontrándonos con la cortina de agua y el acceso al edificio. La tienda se encuentra debajo del anfiteatro y al acceder podemos observar una peculiar escalera en voladizo de acero inoxidable, y donde al recorrerla nos encontrados dentro de la fuente.
